I got a lot out of it. My hardback edition was also rather beautiful. Sadly I would now be hard pressed to define a syllogism or inductive reasoning!

My mind is always a blank after reading stuff like this … well, any stuff … but then I am 68!

You’ve got to have a certain kind of mind, I think. I’m fine with formal logic, my brain works sequentially. But anything involving physics or engineering – 3D forces acting on objects and interacting with each other – and my brain just starts smoking and burning out with the gears squealing. My OH is fine with that, gets exasperated trying to explain the simplest workmen’s principles. We’ve all got our strengths!

Always remember my mum telling my dad, ‘You have a double first in maths and physics and you can’t even change a ****ing light bulb!’ Ah, happy days …
