(almost) daily post!

“…and then, Little Red Riding Hood, Grandmama kicked the mean nasty Wolf in the hoohoo, and went off to teach her community college crochet class, in a truly stylin’ poke-bonnet and tabby fur combo.”

Actually, I deeply disapprove of specially designed ‘cute’ clothing for domesticated companion animals — it seems to militate against the natural dignity of other species, an offensive attempt to anthropomorphize them, and claim yet more territory from the bodies of other species than our own.

Unless they’ve knitted it themselves.  Nice work, Grandma.

Me & Pam – week 6

8932033483_187b8a780e_z

Ta-dah!  Here we are, somewhere around week 15 of the year so far, and…. er…   well, my resolutions are good.  Here I am, catching up with my weekly (!) blogging about the exercises and projects involved in reading Ms Grout’s ‘Art and Soul, Reloaded‘.

So.  Week 6, then.  *coughs*  Ms Grout’s essay for this chapter is about the practice of daily blogging.  A practice she is fairly faithful to, for anyone else who reads https://pamgrout.com/.  Much more faithful than I am, at any rate!  And the task assigned, for this chapter, is to start a blog.  *coughs again*  Well, as we all know, starting something is the easy part…

Oh, I missed a bit.  The complete task is to start a blog – job done, there.  And to blog every day, for a week.  Oh hell…

The Entomologist and NoSpiders-Man – 5

The Entomologist and NoSpiders-Man – 5

Something about it unfroze Adam’s vocal cords, at least. “I was in the shower,” he blurted out, explaining the inexplicable.

Milo nodded, the way you might nod to any naked lunatic. And Adam continued, annoyed – because who liked being humoured? “There was a spider in there,” he said. “I only noticed it once I was already in there, up in the corner out of the way of the showerhead.”

It didn’t get the big reaction he’d been aiming for. Markov just looked at him a moment longer, like there had to be more explanation coming that that. For nudity, and being still bedewed with shower-raindrops, and suchlike.

“It was a really big one,” Adam added. He was getting annoyed, now.

The Entomologist and NoSpiders-Man – 4

Adam couldn’t speak, himself. He’d have choked on a word. It was impossible to come up with even a fumbled, ‘um, hi’. What was he going to do, affect nonchalance, act like he just walked around the building in the buff all the time?

After the awkwardest brief pause in the world, though, Markov saved him. He stood a little straighter – making the most of his diminutive height.  And he looked Adam right in the eye – because anywhere else would have been awkward.  “’Evening, there, neighbour,” was how he opened the conversation.  He folded his arms, and there might have been a twitch of amusement round the pretty curl of his lips. “Interesting weather we’ve been having, right? Warm,” he emphasized.

His gaze traveled and lingered over Adam’s shoulder, arm, hip – suggesting, wordlessly, that a spot of naturism was a perfectly reasonable response to the heat. Or that maybe Adam thought so, at least.

Poem: prescription strength of love

31345417586_e8c39f8242_o

“Your prescription now is stronger,”

My optician says to me

He only means to give the dimming

Fuzzy world a clarity

You, I’ve not explained to him yet

He has not asked that I do

Only wants to know my headaches

An alphabet recital too

Think you I’ll love you less dearly

If I see you sharp and clear

If I see your flaws my dear one

Once I excused myopically

It’s not the case, although it should be

I love you not for fuzzy glow

For radiant halos stemming only

From faulty curve of lens, I know

I love you for your faults, you bastard

And when I see them close and sharp

I’ll pull the hornrims off my nose, dear

Vowed haloed angel, sans specs, mit harp.

Poem: …star corsage

19774605713_d4e2cbeb2c_b

a bouquet of roses,

of diamonds and baby’s breath

a few stars thrown in

to confuse over scale

and Satan peering from a black black hole

deep, deep, deep in the vase

a bouquet of roses

roses, foxes and diamonds

diamonds and baby’s breath

breath, and a few stars

the scale is confused

and Satan’s in there too

peeping out a black hole

gravity in the vase

down deep, deep

Creativity Project – alternate bookcover 09/02/2018

This one?  This one’s an alternate cover for ‘Even A God Of War Pays Overdue Fees‘…  Grecian, godlike, nude…

Even A God Of War Pays Overdue Fees

I wouldn’t quite describe it as NSFW, but I wouldn’t submit it to Amazon either… you never know…  Or not without making the supplementary text a WHOLE lot bigger, right?

Zumba for the Soul, week 5

Are we in week 5 already?  (I suspect we’re in week 6 already, actually.  Late, late, for a very important date!)

Aaaand the Zumba tasks for this week, assigned by Ms. Grout:

a) make a hat out of newspaper.

Ehhhhh.  MORE ORIGAMI?  Can I just cut a circle out of the middle, plonk it on my head and call it a sunhat?

b) then, to write 500 words.  About someone you hate.

Yuck, that’s not a nice task.  Must I?  Well, I suppose it need never see the light of day.

c) Plan a beach holiday, make cocktails for it, get straw hats for the sun.

But hey?  With my newspaper-with-a-hole cut out, I’ve got the sunhat all ready!  (The boozin’ bit I’ve got down.  I can do that all right.)

Alternate bookcover 06/02/2018 b): an alternate to the alternate!

Or here’s a slightly different version.  Better with a grey background? Anyway, it’s another alternate bookcover for ‘Wolves In Leather‘, using the same Canva element.  And monochrome is still pretty.  Like it?  Let me know in the comments!
